Struggling musician Peter Bretter (Jason Segel, Knocked Up, How 1 Met Your Mother) has spent five years idolising his celebrity girlfriend, television star Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars, Heroes) until his world is rocked when she dumps him for "that guy". After an unsuccessful bout of womanising and an on-the-job nervous breakdown, he sees that not having Sarah may just ruin his life.
